I'm struggling here, and I don't know if it's fair to expect DD at 13 months to go to one nap a day, if she's still taking two 1 1/2 hour naps a day and sleeping 11-12 hours at night. I've posted before about our own personal debacle of a situation, but the long and short of it is that DD's new daycare wants one schedule and I think she's not ready for it. However, I don't know if she should be transitioning to one nap now or not. What does your DC do now?
Re: How many naps does your 12-18 month old take?
Is it just not going well with the 1 nap at daycare or are you just worried about it?
DD went to 1 nap at daycare when she moved in the older room at 12 months. She does fantastic on 1 nap. She naps more now than when she was in the infant room. I think she does better because everyone naps at the same time. She does about 1.5-2 hour nap at daycare...which is a lot for her. She used to only do 2 half hour naps at daycare.
On the weekends, we go with the flow. If she's tired in the morning and needs a nap then she may have a morning and afternoon nap. But some days its just 1. But she's a crappy napper for us anyways. She actually is napping way better at daycare now!

I love these two beautiful children!
we are 16 months and still on 2 naps- always have been...
he is up at 6:45/7 and down at 9- usually for an hour to an hour and a half....we play 'hard' in the morning and he really wears himself out and is yawning by 9...so i know that he still needs that nap...he then goes down between 1-2:30 for an hour and a half based on what we are doing during the day....once he is ready to drop the am nap, i'll get a LONGER afternoon nap, but right now, he just needs that morning sleep so i am not pushing for a longer afternoon nap quite yet...
many babies still have 2 naps until they are nearly 2 years old....it all depends on YOUR SCHEDULE and how you want your baby to sleep during the day....?
?do whatever you need to based on your daughter not on an age where she needs to be at one nap..?
DS just turned 1 and takes two 1-2 hr naps a day (although he's been shortening his 2nd) and sleeps for 12-14 hours at night. I asked my pedi about it and she said some kids just need a lot of sleep.
My DS sleeps alot...goes to bed at 8:30pm - 7am (10.5 hrs) then takes a morning nap at 10-10:30 and sleeps till about 1:30 ?(3 hours or so) then takes another nap at 4:30ish till 6:30 (1.5 - 2 hrs) so 14-16 hrs a day.
He just turned 1 year old 2 weeks ago.?
Emerson's been on one nap a day since about nine months old. I know that she's in the minority.
She wakes about 8 in the morning, naps from 1:30 to 4:30 and goes down for the night about 8 at night.
If they are caring for her and you like how they do it, I'd say let them try it.

Daycare is trying to get him to go to one. Some days he does ok but on others, he falls asleep at the table before he can eat lunch. I think that really sucks. I am going to insist that if they want only one nap that they will need to feed him earlier. Otherwise, they give him lunch at three, he stuffs himself and then won't eat dinner. Also, he seems to be waking really early, 4:30 this morning, and I am wondering if it is related. So my short answer is I wish he was taking two naps but he is switching to one.
My girls supposedly dropped to 1 nap a day at 10 months, that is what my daycare lady lead me to believe (she just couldn't get them to nap is all). I am now a SAHM and they are down to 1 big nap a day most days, but if I run an errand with them in the morning (which I try to do a couple times a week to keep my sanity) they usually cat nap in the car for about 20-30 minutes on the way home and still take their long afternoon nap. Their afternoon nap is usually 2 1/2 hours. My daycare lady could not get them to nap longer than an hour in the afternoon and no morning nap, which is why my girls were melting down every evening at around 5:45 and passing out at 6:15. Now that I am able to get them to nap they are up until 7:30 and sleep until 7:30 or 8:00 AM.
Some days my littler twin does need a morning nap and I can just tell by the way she is acting and I will put her down for 30-45 min. in the morning at around 9:15AM.
Healthy Sleep Habits Healthy Child says that on average at 12 months 82% of children have 2 naps a day, but by 15 months that drops to only 43% of children taking 2 naps a day. I say you can try dropping to 1 nap a day, just expect this nap to take place earlier than the normal afternoon nap, that is what happened to my girls. They used to have a morning nap from 9AM-10AM and afternoon nap from 1:00 - 3:00, and now it is one long nap starting at 12:30 to 3:00. Also HSHHC recommends moving the bedtime earlier during the transition time if the child starts getting fussy earlier in the evening to make up for the amount of sleep and it will work itself back to a normal bedtime for him once he has adjusted to less sleep.
