Pregnant after a Loss

Got my labs back from the doc... and they thought they could freak me out

OB's office called with results from my bloodwork yesterday. Progesterone looks great! It was 8.7 at 7/8 dpo, and is now at 17.9, at approx. 15 dpo.

Quick question, do progesterone levels fluctuate? Or do they keep going up? Or do they go up in the beginning and stay up?

HCG level came back at 639. They said that seemed a little low, so I'm going back in tomorrow. I'm thinking, "what? that doesn't seem low to me." From all the tables I find online, that number looks nice and solid, even a little high for 15 dpo.

What do you think? I'm not at all worried, but just curious.

P.S. I didn't have this done last pregnancy, so that's why I seem like a newb.

  • I don't know about the progesterone, but your beta sounds great to me!  Mine are in my siggy.

    Congrats Loves!

  • I never had betas done, so I don't know the answers to your questions, but I just wanted to say you are pg!  Wahoo!  Don't stress about the numbers ... I really don't think they are worth worrying over.
  • I think that's high!  Mine were 235 at at 14 dpo.  Also, according to betabase.com the average hcg at 15dpo is 136.

Progesterone generally rise throughout pregnancy but they'll fluctuate on an hourly basis.  I had one draw at 48 and another draw a few weeks later at 37 and my dr wasn't at all considered (fyi, i'm on progesterone supplements which is probably why my numbers are that high to begin with).

Sending doubling dust for the next draw!!!

  • Your HCG is definitely not low.  My first draw was only 46.  Your progesterone is within the normal range.  They like to see it above 15.  It does fluctuate.  It'll go up and down.  Congrats on the great numbers!
  • HCG looks good but I not sure on the progesterone level......But all I have to go off of is my 29.8 on 12DPO.  No worries just go in at be happy they want to monitor you closely and aren't leaving you in the wind (so to speak).

  • I think the levels look fine too! At 10DPO my betas were 26, so at 15 DPO, you seem right on track!

  • Progesterone can fluctuate on a daily basis, but overall it should be high.

    Your numbers look great!!  Congrats!!!

  • Thanks ladies! I think it's kind of funny that they say progesterone looks good and HCG looks low, and here/online HCG looks good, but progesterone looks low. I'm not at all worried. I'll just go in tomorrow and go from there.

  • I think your HCG number sounds good! I have read that progesterone levels can fluctuate slightly during different times of the day, but the article I was reading was in regards to pre-pregnancy.

  • They can fluctuate, not sure why. I remember my first progesterone 13 dpo was 47, two days later it was 25, and two days after that it was 53.

    Your beta sounds great!

I got my first one at I think 14 or 15dpo, and it was 800 or so. The nurse told me that was "a little low," which is totally not true. I don't think the nurses always know what they're looking at with betas so I would just disregard that comment. The plus side is that they will have you come back for a 2nd draw, which is the one that really matters - that's exactly what happened with me.

Progesterone does fluctuate quite a bit even within one day.

  • Awesome news! That baby of yours is growing and getting cozy in there!!

639 is a great number! I don't know what they are talking about...

Progesterone levels can fluctuate throught the day. They say the best time to take them is in the morning on an empty stomach. They do go up from 7 dpo if you are pregnant and then I think they stay around the same level thru the 1st tri.

    YAY! congrats!!!

  • looks good to me. Progesterone levels do not rise like HCG levels.  They do have a slight increase as your pregnancy progresses, but nothing like HCG.  As far as your numbers they look great.  My HCG was only 173 at 15dpo. I think OB offices are just not used to us girls who are so aware of our bodies and get early + pregnancy tests.  Most people come in when they are at least 1-2 weeks late.

as for P4 yes it does fluctuate as long as its above 10-12 (where most Dr.like it to be) you are good mine were 57 for 14dpo(i was on them since 3dpo so that is why it started out high) and by 17dpo it was 36
