Pregnant after a Loss

freaking out re:Sudafed post

OK, so I had to go back to class before I could read the responses about my sudafed post. My head hurt so bad in class I couldn't keep my left eye open from the pressure so I popped 2 Sudafed PE's. I then read a few hours later MrsLaurenandJustin's response saying to NOT take them! I'm now freaking out. I called my doc but they're closed for the day. I'm trying not to worry about one dose of this, and went and bought the right Sudafed at a different pharmacy on my way home, but holy crap...I'm so worried I hurt my baby :(

  • Cora,

I am so sorry you're worried. I think you'll be ok with the one dose. Is there an on-call doctor you can call? I'm sure Nicholas is just fine :)

  • I am sure you are fine b/c is is just one does.  It would probably be a problem if you took it all the time.  Hoefully you can get a hold of your doc tomorrow and s/he can reasure you that everything will be fine.
  • I just found this and I feel a little bit better. Considering I took only 10mg of phenylephrine I won't worry too much. They're essentially the same meds.

  • OH man I am sorry to make you freak out!!!!! I am sure you will be just fine!!!

I found this, apparently this girl took a dose without realizing it, and her Dr. told her that as long as baby was moving ok not to worry.

  • I'm sure he is fine.  The reason they say not to take PE is because its a blood vessel constrictor and thus can constrict the blood flow to the baby-but I doubt if one dose will do any damage.  I would try to call an oncall doc too but mostly stay calm-I'm sure its ok.

  • Thanks girls...I'm still confused though since both meds constrict the blood vessels? Either way, I'll only take the regular Sudafed IF I need to. I'm planning on doing the Netipot twice a day until these headaches stop since nothing is absorbed that way!! I did feel him move about 3 hours after I took the meds (still not feeling him regularly but I did get a good kick!!) so I'll take that as a good sign!

  • sudafed is on my okay list - I had a horrible cold at the beginning of my pregnancy.  I used it a couple of times and am okay.  I am not sure about the differences between the stuff you can get OTC vs pharmacist -- I had both and nurse told me both were okay.

  • I wouldn't worry over one dose. If you took it every night or something, maybe but one dose probably won't hurt anything.
