Hi girls, I'm due at the beginning of November and plan on breastfeeding. I was just wondering what types of things you put on your registries. I will be getting a pump but am kind of at a loss as to what else I will need. Also, do you recommend any resources or books to check out. Thanks so much!
Re: Question from 2nd tri
Kellymom.com is a great online resource. I had a breastpump on my registry, but it wasn't purchased so we had to get all of the stuff on our own. Will you be freezing breastmilk? If so, you'll need some storage bags and/or tubes to keep milk in. You'll probably want a few additional bottles to pump into- usually your pump will come with only one or two. I think we had 4 bottles that fit the pump. Whether or not you put it on your registry, you'll want to get some breast pads for leakage; I like the Medela brand.
I didn't take a BFing class, but I did take advantage of the free LC at the hospital while we were there, so make sure to do that so you can get off to a good start. GL!
I recommend the My Brest Friend Nursing Pillow over the Boppy hands down. It has a flatter surface area making it easier to position the baby and keep the baby in the correct position. I found the LO slides between me and my Boppy and I am constantly having to re-adjust her. I have both and keep the My Brest Friend in our bedroom for nighttime feedings. I used to take it back and forth but now that LO is a bit older I can re-adjust her and not fear unlatching her and her loosing interest in BFing.
Also get some nipple cream and use it from day one. Don't wait until your nipples need it because by then it's too late and you may be in agony.
One more thing, a LC is worth her weight in gold. Take advantage of the one if your hospital has them on staff and I would plan on having one come out to your house a day or two after your get home from the hospital. I took a BF class at my hospital and they suggested spending the money you would spend on formula the 1st month, roughly $150 on a LC to come to you. It will build your confidence and get you and your LO off on the right foot. GL
Reading the 2 previous posts - I absolutely agree....use that LC at the hospital!!
I did not take a class, but there is so much lack of understanding out there on BF vs formula feeding that I'd say do yourself a favor and TAKE THE CLASS.

I personally had minor with leaking, so I never even used a whole box of breast pads. Never had issues with cracked nipples, so again didn't use that.
However, I'm a working mom, so having extra storage containers to hold the milk is very handy, as is extra shields, connectors and storage bags. I also used my car adapter numerous times.
