Breastfeeding

for once I'm happy to have a small stash

The other night, DH unplugged our deep freeze to use the shop vac in the basement and forgot to plug it back in.  I discovered it last night when I went to put something in the freezer.  My first thought was about my milk- forget the hundreds of dollars of food in there LOL.  I only had 6 2ish oz bags left in there, and for once I'm glad that it wasn't a lot more.

The milk was still mostly frozen but had started to thaw around the edges, so I averted a panic attack and had a moment of clarity and decided to let it continue to thaw in the fridge and send it to daycare with her today since she takes 12oz there.  Then I can freeze what I pumped yesterday.

Most of the food that was in there was still frozen solid so we only had to throw out about 10 frozen meals that were in the hanging baskets.  It could have been a catastrophe!

  • I am so happy for you!  I would cry if my milk spoiled...but I have quite a bit (for me at least!)

Yeah, I was on the verge of tears until I realized that it was still almost completely frozen and that it wasn't much more than she drinks while I'm at work anyhow.  I got a sick feeling when I thought that I was going to have to throw it out and we'd have NO frozen milk left.  The stash will get rotated, and all's well that ends well.

  • I hear you. I only have about 5 bottles worth and the power went out the other night. I started to freak about them being ruined and then realized it wouldn't take me long to replace them. Whew.
