Pregnant after a Loss

Not able to find h/b at this point?

We heard it last night, but tonight, nada.  I know the chicken is an avowed doppler dodger, but it upset me.  We had several sustained spikes on the monitor in the right range, but could not actually hear it.

I feel sad right now.  I think I've held it together pretty well over the last week while I've adjusted to the previa thing and continued to bleed again and again, so I expect my overly emotional reaction (I cried for about 15 minutes when we stopped looking) is related to that.  But I am unhappy that we couldn't find it,and trying not to worry.

  • I had trouble finding my LO's heartbeat last night. Sometimes they like to curl up and hide from it! Take a break for a bit and try again later. Don't worry---it happens.

  • I didn't get my doppler until 16 weeks and sometimes did have trouble finding it. ?I put the doppler down and would come back in 15-30 minutes (during those 15-30 minutes I was usually emotionally stuffing Oreos in my mouth in a panic).?

?Also, sometimes I would have to almost put u/s gel almost all over my lower abdomen and scan all over - our little guy sometimes like to hide in corners/very low. ??

    HTH.?

  • my LO hates the doppler and will run from it all the time - sometimes the nurse even has trouble getting his HB to come in.  Sometimes when  you're tense it's harder to get a reading (which makes you tense, rinse, repeat).  The best thing to do is set it down and walk away and try again with a nice full bladder and just put a ton of gel on your belly and look all over.  Good luck, I'm sure chickadee is fine and dandy.

  • This is another reason why I didn't get the doppler, because I am such a worry wart and the first time I don't hear a hb I'd be trying to go to the ER! But they have their pros too when you find the hb when you are nervous. Try to relax my Dr coundlt find it on the doppler once and it was because of her position.

  • I had the same problem right around that time!  Everyone said to try with a full bladder, but that made it worse for me, same as if I tried after eating.  Relax, then try again, I am sure you will find your LO!
  • Aw, don't worry! I'm sure your LO is just in a funny position. I'm sorry you're sad- try your best to think happy thoughts and picture a nice comfy little baby in there :)

  • Got it.  Hanging out much more to the right and way higher than usual, and hiding behind my h/b for awhile.  But after a bit, the chicken obligingly moved more center so we could get a clear listen.

    I'll sleep better tonight.

This is the first sort of freak out I've had using the doppler.  Usually, I just shrug and put it away.  I think I'm just overstressed and tired.  In fact, bed is calling to me. . .

  • Try not to worry, I had a nurse at the hospital not find ours at like 23 weeks. I bet you will find it tomorrow.

  • I think between 16 and 18 weeks it was a bit harder to find the h/b.  It was as if the baby was way in the back of me and no where close to the doppler.  I'm glad you found it and could get some sleep.

  • Oh honey, I'm glad you found it! I can't imagine how nerve wracking that's got to be ...

I still haven't HEARD the baby's h/b. : (  Everytime I go to the doctor and they use the doppler, they give up after a couple minutes and shuffle me off to the u/s room.  I get to see baby and know everything is OK, but it kinda sucks that I still haven't heard the h/b at this point. Hopefully at my next appt in two weeks.

  • I couldn't hear Sean's at all last night but he was kicking or punching at the doppler so I know he was in there and ok.  I think its just something we have to deal with.

  • Oh, don't panic! I had a MUCH harder time finding the h/b around 16 weeks too!! The baby has become more mobile and swims away from the doppler, so it's really common. It freaks you out, though - especially with the spotting. As long as you are seeing the spikes, your baby is dancing away!
