Breastfeeding

nighttime bfing

I'm looking forward to the day that my lo sleeps longer than 2 hours per night (our max between feedings is 3 hours...although last night and today it has been about ever 1.5 hrs)

I have heard (and I wish) that my lo may start sleeping longer at some point. How do you know when to comfort your LO (pat on back, rock, etc) and put them back to sleep vs feeding them at every waking, which I'm currently doing?

  • i know once they reach their birth weight you dont need to wake them anymore to feed... but my son had an 11pm feeding then sttn till 7am at 9wks. (that was his 1st time sttn). Before that he would feed at 3am. I would push it every 3hrs if you can.

  • Is he eating well each time you feed him at night?  If so, my pedi recommended that I continue to feed my LO.  If he's only sucking for a short time, then going back to sleep, he probably doesn't need to eat.  My LO still wakes up twice each night to eat, and I rarely get 4 hours of sleep in a row...I feel your pain!  It does get easier.
