We were going to have them room together no matter what the gender was, the baby will be in our room for several months.
If it was a boy, both would move into our guest room because it's gender neutral, ocean theme. And then slightly re-do the nursery and make it a guest room. Switch Swap.
Since it is a girl, we just added another crib to DD's room and we are done.
I'm not sure if that's what you are looking for in an answer, but that's what we did.
We made a second nursery. We wanted each child to have thier own room, and DS is no where near ready to have a toddler bed. So we left his nursery as is, and will reonvate when he is ready, and made a second nursery for the new baby.
we're moving kid #1 to a big kid room, and giving kid #2 the baby room. We'll keep DS in his crib and we're moving all of his decor over so the room should look very similar, but it just made the most sense to move him. The nursery has the camera mounted to the wall and it a lot closer to our bedroom than any of the other rooms in the house. Plus, now DS will be a lot closer to the bathroom...something I"m hoping will be a plus when we start potty training in a year.
Our nursery is a gender neutral paint color, so we planned for that to always be the baby's room and we could change out accessories/art if different gender kids came along. ?We just made a really fun and colorful big boy room for our older son and moved him in there a few days ago and the baby will just move into the nursery without any changes needed at all. ?Once the baby is old enough, we will be moving him into the other room as well because we want our kids to learn how to share a room.
DC#1 moved into his new "big boy" room with a twin bed. DC#2 moved into the gender neutral nursery. When she was ready for a "big girl" room, we redecorated it with girly bedding and accessories but kept the wall color (which was a pretty sage green).
DD got moved to her big girl bedroom and we kept the nursery the nursery for DS. It made sense for a lot of reasons, including room size, decor (murals) and heating/ventilation issues.
