I'm asking this question for my best friend. She just found out on Sunday that she is excepting baby #1. A few years ago, she had an ectopic pregnancy. Her and her husband have been TTC for a few months and she wants to be excited, but is so nervous. She went today for bloodwork and will do a follow on Thursday and a u/s next Thrusday. The nurse said that because she has a ectopic in the past her chances are higher, is that true?
Any advice is welcome.
Re: Ectopic pregnancy?
I was told my chance was higher of another e/p but I also had a great shot at a healthy pregnancy. Alot of it depends on if there was an underlying problem that caused the ectopic ie: Endometriosis, clogged tube etc...I waited only 2 cycles, and it looked on my u/s that I even O'd on the same side as my ectopic. I will say a prayer for a healthy pregnancy for your friend, so far mine has been great!!
It is statistically true, but the u/s should be reassuring to her.
I was told that my chances of another ectopic (mine was cervical, rather than tubal) were no higher than normal, because a cervical ectopic is so ridiculously rare and they don't really know what causes them (and the few studies they've done indicate no real increased risk, or only a small risk).
