EWWW!

There is a bat in my fireplace!!!  We had the chimney inspected when we were in negotiations on the house and I guess they left the flue (spelling???) open.  He first arrived Sat evening and was gone by morning.  I made DH tape the fireplace doors so he wouldn't try to get out.  But he was back when I got up this morning.  I called the chimney place because now I'm concerned there's something wrong with the cap.  DH and I had a good laugh that we could recreate the bat scene from "Black Sheep"!  :-)  But in all seriousness....ewww!  I'm petrified that it'll find it's way into my house somehow.

  • We never had woods in our old house and now I feel like I've moved into the movie Snow White.  We have birds, squirrels, a family of bunnies, raccoons, ants, bees, buck deer, a woodpecker, cats....you name it!  It would be nice if they would stay out of my house though!  :-)

  • We had to have a squirrel removed from our chimney a few months ago. It chewed through the metal around our cap and jumped in. It was not a fun experience!

I grew up in an old house that somehow got a LOT of bats in it (like 6 each summer).  YUCK.

Two ways to get rid of them-

1- catch it in a sheet when it's resting and release it outside

2- kill it with a tennis racket (they can't "see" the racket coming because of the netting

... or call a critter guy...  but all I can say is YUCK!  They used to freak me out... I would go and hide in my room until I knew it was safe.
