Hello ladies,
I will be joining you on this board soon. I nursed DD#1 for a year, pumped for 7 1/2 months. Last time I pumped into the Medela PIS bottles and then transferred to the Lansinoh freezer bags, then poured those into Avent bottles for daycare each day.
I am trying to make things easier this time, plus I threw away my Avent bottles b/c of the BPA. So I was reading about the Playtex drop-ins and see that they are compatible with the Medela pump. Does anyone use these and if so, can you share your experience?
Do the bags close at the top? Can you freeze them if you don't use them right away? I love the idea of not having to wash so many bottles!
Thanks!
Re: Does anyone use Playtex drop-ins with Medela pump?
I don't think they are compatible. I thought the Medelas only attached to smaller bottles and the drop in liners are for larger bottles so you can't pump directly into them. The drop ins don't seal by themselves, so you can't really freeze them without bottle tops and then it's a pain because they take up so much room.
I pump into Medela bottles, transfer to Lansinoh bags and either fold the bag over the drop ins bottle or pour into the drop ins liner.
I think I read that there is an adapter "ring" for the Medela pump, but if they don't close at the top, then its probably not worth it.
hmm...
The measuring device is inaccurate. I usually only use the storage bags for freezer storage, so I pump into a bottle, find out how much there is, then pour into the bag and write on the correct measurement. For example, 3 ounces in the bottle usually looks like 4.5 in the bag.
I bought the connector kit and like pp said there is a disc that goes in the top so you can freeze them. If you are planning on freezing a lot, then that is not the way to go. You'll still want to use bags.
I eventually switched to Dr. Brown's bottles because my son was way too gassy on the Playtex Drop Ins. The Dr. Brown's bottles connect directly to the pump with no special connector needed.
