Infertility

What is a good follicle size? And does bigger mean better?

I just had my cd12 us and have 2 follies. I was hoping for 3, but I am happy I have at least 2. I will be doing B2B IUI's on Wed and Thurs. Does the size of the follie have any indication of the quality?

Re: What is a good follicle size? And does bigger mean better?

  • No size does not = quality. Size = maturity for the most part. Depending on what method you are using for ovulation induction, REs like to see them at a certain size before triggering (if you trigger).

  • I don't think size=quality, but size definitely = maturity.  Mine usually get to about 18mm, which my RE thinks is ok, but I think most people want them over 20mm.
  • On clomid, they look for follicles to be over 20mm

On injectables, they like it to be over 18mm.

Some REs do vary on this, but for the most part that is pretty standard.

My RE looks for over 20mm but a bigger follie doesn't mean better quality, just that it's ready/mature.
