Alomst at the end of my rope...

I'm running out of hope for BFing.  We were doing soooo well and now that he's in day care, it's falling apart.  Before, he would get 5-6oz every 4-6 hours.  Now I can barely produce 4oz in 4 hours.  Last night he ate at 6 and was hungry again by 7 but I had NOTHING for him, but I let him latch anyway and he got what very little he could.  He held off until 10:30 and then ate and passed out.  I know I wasn't full though so he probably only got 4oz.  I have been trying everything I can think of (besides supplements and pills) since last Monday and it's slowly gotten worse.  I am drinking WAY more water, I made those Lactose cookies (which btw cost me $40!), cut out caffeine, pumped more, etc.  I don't want to have to supplement but first the thrush for four weeks and now this...I just don't know if I can hack it.    Thanks for listening to me vent.

I hear your frustration. I have been pumping into a bottle and giving it to her that way....so days I can pump like a champ and other days, I'm like are you kidding me 4 ounces!!!! I have been supplementing with formula to make sure she isn't starving to death. I have come to the decision that within the next month, I am going to have to stop the BF Not happy about the decision, but when you can't produce enough...what choice are you left with to have some sanity. Thing is, I was doing GREAT at your stage.  I was already producing 6-7 oz and saving a bunch.  Now I'm at the end of that supply and STILL don't have enough for him.  DH just went back to work a few weeks ago...formula is sooo expensive I'd prefer not to do it if I don't have to.  I mean, I will do what needs to be done and if formula is it, then what can I do?  But I think I'm going to see a LC first.  Who knows.  Do LC's cost much?

I had the same problem when I went back to work.  I was pumping three times a day to get her three bottles for the next day and was no where near making ends meet.  So I started taking more milk plus and it has done wonders.  I went from getting 4oz, 3oz and only 2 oz for the three pumps, to now getting 7oz, 5oz 4 oz.   I hope it only continues.  Its worth a shot, good luck.
