Pregnant after a Loss

Speaking of registries...

I have had several people inform me that they are NOT buying off of my registry, because registries are there for people who don't know what to get me.

Uhh... no they're there to guide you toward things I need/want.

?ETA: Ok, I sound bratty. ?Of course I will be so appreciative of whatever anyone does get me - its just that I worked so hard on my registry that I would like people to utilize it :)

Re: Speaking of registries...

  • You DO NOT SOUND BRATTY!!!!  I would find that so annoying, like you do not know what you want/need for your baby!  UGH!!!!!  This is so something my dh's family would do/say!

  • U don't sound bratty at all! The purpose of the registry is so that you get the things YOU need, not what other people want you to have! Although anything is very appreciated, but this is what its there for!! Pampers and wipes and stuff like that I can understand but dont get me a pink stroller when I already have one! Thats why I put the green one on the registry!!

  • yeah, that's annoying.  Mostly because of the increased likelihood of dupicate gifts - registries are also there to cut down on that too!  Although the worst thing I heard was people who bought off the registry and intentionally didn't remove the item so the person couldn't registry stalk!  I bet she ended up with a bunch of duplicate stuff - that would piss me off!

  • Oh I got flamed even on this board for posting this a couple weeks ago.  I got a truckload of clothes for 3 months with no gift receipts.  It can be frustrating but hang in there!  Regardless it helped you figure out what you want and need.

  • It would be funny if people started getting you doubles of things, and you open them both at the same shower (stage it: have a friend ask, "Oh, did you register for that?" and you answer, "No, I didn't") Devil
  • my one friend got 6 car seats at her baby shower because no one looked at her registry. at least they were returnable/exchangeable, but goodness!?
Married my BEST FRIEND on December 1, 2007. Started TTC in March 2008. Found out we were expecting our first child in October 2008 - but had a m/c in December 2008 - resulting in a d&e. Met with a RE in May 2009 and set a plan - but conceived unexpectedly on our own! Our precious little Sophia was born on February 9, 2010! Lilypie Third Birthday tickers

I LOVE this idea! You should totally do it. Wow, I've never heard of people saying something like that before. That would really annoy me! GL!

I think it's rather rude to not buy at least something off the registry - it's there for a reason! And women should understand that new moms need a lot of stuff for their babies.

It's fun to buy baby clothes, so I'll usually buy one bigger thing off the registry and then a little outfit, too.

I so hope my shower guests will use my registries!! So far I have like 15 things purchased from my registries ... not too shabby! But we shall see...

  • If you sound bratty, than I am Queen of the Brats. I think it's downright rude to not shop off a registry! If one is there, it's there for a reason. Some poor pregnant woman took hours out of her day, on her feet, with no food to put that thing together and if people don't even bother to shop off of it....well, that just gets me. Even taking the registry ideas and buying them elsewhere to save money, like Target or Walmart instead of BRU, is acceptable. Don't feel bad, I don't think you are alone. :o)

  • Hahahhaa...i think you should TOTALLY stage the "Did you register for that" comment...even if it stinks for you, you'd be helping some one else in the future who might invite that person to a shower. I think it's totally rude to not shop off people's registries.

  • I had my shower this weekend, and I didn't get much from the registry, but it looks as though people took the registry into account and bought me the types of items that I wanted, but just not necessarily the exact ones I had put on the registry.  In my case, this worked out fine.  I did get two bouncers, but one is available at BRU, so I just put it on the registry and marked it as purchased because I've heard that I can return for store credit that way.  I also did this with the extra packs of onesies that I didn't need.  Other things I got that weren't the exact thing I had registered for - sleep sacks (actually cuter than the ones I'd registered for), receiving blankets (ditto) and swaddle wraps (I got a Miraclewrap which was actually pricier than the SwaddleMe I wanted).  I also got a number of handmade items - both toys and clothes; I have crafty friends - that were lovely.  So take heart; you may end up being pleasantly surprised!
