Could DS get used to the lipase taste in my frozen bm?

He's been refusing bottles that have milk older than 1-2 days, frozen or refrigerated. They taste and smell a little funny, kind of like rust or metal, but not like sour cow's milk.

I have over 200 oz frozen, and I hate to throw it away. Could DS get used to the taste if I keep trying to give it to him? What if I mix very small amounts into fresh bm until he gets used to the taste? Do you think this could work?

Re: Could DS get used to the lipase taste in my frozen bm?

  • I personally think that could work. I'd try it before doing anything drastic like throwing away 200oz or taking time and effort to blanch all new milk.

I had a few bottles of frozen that Harris absolutely refused, but most of it's not too bad and he takes it. I don't know if he started getting used to it or if the taste just isn't that strong. I can still smell the weird smell, but it's not as strong as the bottles that he outright refused.

Hope something works for you. I too, was worried about my 200oz stash when he refused those bottles. Thankfully it's all still there.

  • I would try it, what will it hurt? DS refuses to drink milk that has been frozen, luckily my milk stays fresh for up to 7 days in the fridge. I pump more than DS takes during the day so I end up dumping about 40 oz each week, plus I have over 100 oz frozen that I can't bring myself to toss. GL I hope it works for you!

If he will not take the frozen BM, have you thought of donating it to a milk bank? You could also do the same to the 40oz that you dump each week.
