Disposable nursing pads vs washable?

I like the idea of disposables, but my LC told me some brands stick to your nips when wet....ouch! Cotton washables sound more comfy, but I can imagine losing them or not being able to wash them often enough.

If you have disposable ones, recommend the brand you use. I plan on using these from the time I deliver until I go back to work (6wks pp) and then after that just at night. Thinking about getting Lily Padz for work, and trips out of the house.

Re: Disposable nursing pads vs washable?

  • I had some Evenflo ones with lanolin that were pretty good... but I definitely prefer the washable kind.  The disposable ones will definitely stick to your nips, some brands more than others.

  • I started off using cloth just because it was more economical.  Unfortunately, they leaked horribly. Also, I found that they stuck to me. I have had neither problem with disposables. I have used Lanisoh, playtex, and medela and they all work well.

  • I like the Johnsons brand disposables.

I really like Natracare disposables, which are made from organic cotton.  I get them at Whole Foods.  But they're expensive and, well, you have to go to WF to get them.  But I've never leaked through them to my shirt even though they've gotten saturated.

And after having bought 7 boxes already, I'm sort of feeling like I should have looked into reusables!  But maybe I'll only need them at night soon (hoping!).

  • I used the Lansinoh brand of disposables for a while, but they started to make my boobs itch like crazy.  So I switched to Avent washable and I loved them.
  • I just started using washable ones and I really like them.  I don't sweat nearly as much with the washables and I feel more comfortable.  However I do not leak a lot so I hope this helps you.  If you get washables I would say have at least 6 to start with. GL
  • I use both, depending on the shirt and bra.

    But, check this out... LOL

  • well, i don't use disposeable, i use the cotton ones.  i do ds's laundry every other day & just wash the pads w/ his stuff.  i have 4 sets & haven't found myself running out at all.  good luck!
  • I've tried both and I liked the disposable ones better.  The washables ones didn't absorb much and I still had leaks so maybe it was a matter of finding the right ones.  I always used Lansinoh disposables.
