My mother still doesn't get what we're doing and/or why.  She loves the fact that we are planning on adopting, and thinks adoption is a great thing, but she thinks it's just a travesty that we're waiting this long.

Today she called me and said, "{Your godmother} told me today that she has a friend who put her name on the list to adopt, and in 3 months she had a baby.  Then, she went back three years later, and got another just as quickly.  Neither mother wanted any contact, and she even moved without telling them and is raising the kids up north in the country."

I had to point out that the woman was probably already homestudy approved, and if not, she probably was just approved at the time of the first placement.  Then I pointed out that it was an immediate situation (this came out with just another question or two).

Finally, I had to reiterate for the thousandth time that we are adopting because we want to offer a home to a child that might not otherwise have one, so this is not a race.  We are intentionally not adopting a baby for that reason.  Sure, if we wanted a child ASAP, we probably could have managed that, but that is not why we are doing this.

I know I tell her that the waiting is difficult, but I have also told her a million times why we chose this path, why it takes so long, and that we are okay with our current plans.  I know she's impatient for her grandchild, but why oh why can't she just understand that this is our path?

Yeah, I hate the questions and calls on why is it taking so long...If I new I would something about it. We are doing IA ans people kept saying why don't you just go get DD...I would if I could.

I don't get why people think you can just go get her. They aren't puppies in a box at Walmart!  When people ask why it takes so long, I always say I am glad it takes this long since we know they are doing their best to find the best possible home for each child.
