Ok - So I am nervous about positive results and the chance of a false positive...have any of you had false positives or did all your numbers fall in the normal range...also how long til you got the results - They said if I didn't hear by next Tuesday I should be fine (they only call with abnormals).
We didn't do the NT scan because insurance didn't cover and my midwife said that my age (25) and family history didn't warrant it so it was our choice and we decided not to.
Now I am just stressing...
Re: Quad Screen ? for those who had it done...
Our numbers fell in the normal range for everything so they didn't call. I worried and called about a week after my b/w and the nurse confirmed that things were fine. I didn't get any numbers though so I'm not sure what they looked like.
Try not to stress. Just like with the NT scan, you are young and have no family history, so you will probably get great results on this test too. ((hugs))
Not Downs, worse - Trisomy 18. My age has my risk of Trisomy 18 at around 1 in 3000. However my bloodwork from my sequential screen (at 16 weeks) gave us a 1 in 8 chance of the baby having T18. OB is positive she does not have it (3 extensive u/s later she does not have any markers at all and is growing ahead of schedule). However, the bloodwork could be an indicator that the placenta is not functioning as it should be....so I started weekly NST last week and have another u/s in two hours. Try not to freak out too much and remember that it is just a risk factor....a high risk result does not mean anything is wrong. Looking back, that is easier said then done now. That high risk did put stress on me for about 10 weeks until everything continued with her growth progressing nicely.
Thank you ladies!
Jeffrae - that is SO awful but it is true that it is only a percentage and not a definite unless you have the amnio...which I don't think we will do (we haven't really talked about it) Thanks for your info and I am glad your little girl is looking good and wish you the absolute best with the rest of your pregnancy.
I'm lurking from PAL, and thought I'd reply.
Like you, I didn't have the NT scan done. My quad screen bloodwork came back abnormal, with an increased chance for Downs. We chose to have an amnio, and our results came back completely normal. In fact, as I type this, my "genetically normal" baby boy is asleep in the mei tai on my chest. False positives seem to happen a lot more than what they tell you.
Definately talk about your options. You won't know until you are in the situation. Had our u/s showed markers, we would have had the amnio. Since there were none, we did not want to take the risk with the amnio (even though it is much smaller then our T18 risk). Good luck and try not to stress too much!
