BF & Solids

I am teacher and am thinking about my supply. I would like to BF and continue to pump during the school year. We've been giving DS solids for at least a month and a half now. Should I be pumping while DS is having solids? Can I regain what supply I may have?

I have been BF way more since I've been on summer break, but did not think of this. Is there a way to tell how much I might get? I used to get 9-10 oz./day while pumping at work. I've pumped twice since being on break and did not get much this time (but he did just eat a few times in the last couple of hours), while I got 5 oz. the other time. (hadn't eaten in a few hours)

Suggestions for supply?I posted this last night on 6-12 w/no responses and now that I am reading it, it seems like it might be OK.

Re: BF & Solids

  • After 6 months your supply may begin to decline, so you should definitely pump on the same schedule even if you are starting solids. If you plan to continue to BF you should keep pumping when you are not feeding LO. You will probably get less when you pump, but keep trying...remember the more rest and healthy foods you eat the better your supply will be. GL!
