I posted last week about being prescribed an antibiotic for the bacterial infection they found when I went in for a check-up at 24 wks.
I know that Google can be helpful/harmful, and I just am so nervous now about taking an antibiotic during my PG! Granted, my dr. prescribed it, but after reading articles about it online, I am a nervous wreck!!
Was anyone else been prescribed antibiotics during PG and went on to have healthy pregnancy/healthy babies??
I am half way through my prescription, but just wanting some reassurance that taking the pill is more helpful than harmful to my girls!!!
THANKS!
BTW, the FFN test they took on me was negative-phew!!!
Re: antibiotics?
do not google meds - all you will find is negative info on it - or info written for medical professionals that is hard for a layman to understand.
many antibiotics are fine during pg - trust your doctor.
pg categories are guidelines - even cat C drugs are considered quite safe - esp when there is a big need for them.
having an uncontrolled infection is MUCH more dangerous than taking antibiotics during pg. Trust your docs.... and step away from google.
I agree 100%
Yes, I've taken antibiotics during 2 of my pregnancies. I think the only 2 I've taken are amoxicillin and Keflex.
We, as well as friends of ours, have had multiple experiences with doctors making questionable decisions about our medical treatment. A close friend of ours had a very bad reaction and almost lost her baby because of what the hospital called a "dirty drug" her doc had prescribed while she was pregnant. She spent the remaining few months of her pregnancy completely miserable with doctors trying to correct the problem. Because of this, we place trust in the good doctors we have found, but we also take their advice with a grain of salt and find our own information as much as possible. (If it weren't for the ladies on this board recommending a peri... I never would have found ours because my OB told us we didn't need one.)
Anyway, I'm also lucky because my grandpa is a pharmacist so I have access to prescription advice whenever I need it! While Googling can be scary and even harmful, I think you're smart to also do your own research about your medical care.
Here's a good drug website that I use for medical transcription if you're interested:
