help..clogged duct!

A few days ago I had a clogged duct that absolutely killed! I put compresses on it, took advil and within 24 hours it went away. However tis am I woke up to find a white dot on my nipple that kills when BFing...What can I do about this! Thanks!

  • Warm compresses before BFing/pumping, cold after.  Nurse/pump constantly and massage the blocked duct while doing so.  If the dot is a plugged duct I think you can scrape at it and try to unblock it.  I've also heard that you can point LO's nose at the duct while feeding. 

    OR if this is a white dot as in thrush, you should probably call the OB.

  • It sounds like you might have a milk blister on your nipple which can cause plugged ducts.  From what I was told thrush nipples are very red and painful when nursing, but I don't think it gets the white cottage cheese like things on it like the baby may have in his/her mouth.  Check kellymom.com for advice on how to clear plugged ducts and milk blisters!  GL!
