Breastfeeding

anyone BF or EP and going back to work in a restaurant?

I am a server in a restaurant and going back to work in Sept.  I primarily pump but sometimes mt LO nurses.  I really wanted to make it 6 months with breastmilk but I dont know how to do that working in a restaurant.  I dont get a break and can't leave my tables to pump during the shift.  I am assuming I will become engorged if I do not nurse or pump for 5 hours.  Does anyone have experience with this?  Any advise or suggestions?  I really don't want to have to go to formula.

  • have you talked to your manager?  perhaps there is something they can do for you. otherwise i'd get to work early and pump right before you go in, and then again right before you leave to go home.  is that an option?

  • If you really are in CT, your employer has to provide you not only time, but also a private place:

  • are you working nights? my dd was sleeping 7+ hours straight by about 8 weeks so i'd go that long without pumping or nursing. i think if you use your time working as your long period to go without doing either and then nurse/pump when you aren't at work you should be fine. your supply will regulate so you shouldn't be that engored after only 5 hours. good luck!

  • I work in a resturant and work very part time hours, I pump before I leave and as soon as I get home. However, I spoke with my manager this evening, and they are going to give me time and space to pump every shift once we are off the wait. My manager agreed that smokers get breaks, I should as well.
  • You are in Connecticut??Conn. Gen. Stat. ? 31-40w (2001)?requires employers to provide a reasonable amount of time each day to an employee who needs to express breast milk for her infant child and to provide accommodations where an employee can express her milk in private. (HF 5656)
