Sterilizing bottles...

So, I just did a little internet research on sterilizing bottles and I'm still not sure why anyone does this?  The bottles don't stay sterile once you touch them.  I think I'm just going to wash them in the dishwasher, along with the pacifiers and nipples, and be done with it...unless anyone knows some other info that I didn't find.  Any opinions out there?

  • If you think about it, you're not touching the inside of the bottle where it really matters...

  • I dont' plan on doing it everytime I wash them. ?Normally I will just wash them in the dishwasher or with reg. warm soapy water. ?I boiled mine when I first took them out of the packages just in case there is any type of packaging residue or whatever on them. ?

I've read it's really not necessary anymore because of improvements in safe drinking water and the advent of dishwashers.  People keep doing it because people have always done it, but it's not necessary now like it used to be.

  • I never really understood this either.  I don't think the baby will die if there is a speck of a germ in the bottle.  I could be wrong, though.  What do I know.  I don't have a baby yet.  But I've read in several places that this is unnecessary and that dishwashers do a fine job cleaning bottles.  I don't plan on sterilizing them.  It sounds like a waste of time unless someone persuades me otherwise.
  • I don't plan on sterilizing mine. The dishwasher will be good enough in my opinion.
