Reglan/Domperidone Rx- need advice

I went to my MW yesterday to talk about getting an Rx for my supply which has been cut in half. Randomly. I'm really struggling the last 3 or so weeks to make enough for daycare and sometimes I have to just send what I've got and we're short a few ozs. I've tried oatmeal, fenugreek, water, getting plenty of sleep, power pumping, you name it.
So I asked for an Rx and she told me that Reglan has been taken off the market and she couldn't write a Rx for domperidone, but would check with a Dr (it's a joint practice). Nope, Dr wouldn't do it either. What am I to do? The nurse thought that Domperidone didn't need a Rx, but that's not what I've heard. Is Reglan off the market? Should I try my primary Dr and see if she'll write me a scrip? I'm so desparate right now and don't want to quit. I want to make it a year and we're not even in the home stretch.

  • reglan has been taken off the market?  I had no idea. I wonder when that happened.

  • i dont know about reglan being taken off because i just refilled my perscription for it 3 days ago. i have to be honest though, it was my second 3week dose and i just couldnt take it anymore. it made me sooooo drowsy that i felt like i wanted to die. it wasnt worth taking it and being that sleepy all the time but everyone is different. it really didnt change my milk supply that much at all....a couple ml's here and there but nothing substantial!
  • REglan definitely is not off the market.

  • As far as I know Reglan is not off the market, call your primary physician. ?Do be aware the Reglan side effects include depression and anxiety, and that is why I had to stop taking it. ?And if you miss doses or stop taking it, it will kill your supply.

Domperidone you can't get in the US, but you can buy online through an in-house pharmacy (I think that's what it's called) and you don't need a prescription. ?Good luck!?

  • Don't know about Reglan except that my OB's office doesn't prescribe it, just domperidone (which they were fine prescribing for me). I think it may be possible to get it without a prescription though if you order it through an international online pharmacy, maybe Canada or Mexico? Mine is from Canada although I did have a scrip. Good luck!

  • My DD was given a Rx for Reglan yesterday.

The FDA has some issues with a "parkenson's like" disorder that people are getting. The DR said that it was like 1 in 100's of thousands. They made me sign and informed consent slip.

  • I would avoid Reglan. I called and asked for a prescription of Domperidone or Reglan and my OB said she wasn't familiar with Domperidone so she gave me an RX for Reglan. I took it for 1 day (3 pills) and felt horrible. I was so tired that I could barely get up to take care of Owen so I quit taking it. Two days later my milk supply dropped so low that I wasn't making anywhere near enough to feed Owen anymore.

  • You don't need an rx to get domperidone.

Here is where I ordered it from, however it took 2 weeks to be delivered and you have to sign for it:

  • I take the generic of Reglan....started 8 days ago, so it was available that recently
  • I was given an rx for reglan on thurs but didn't fill it because all of the nurses in the nicu told me how nasty it was, as did the pharmacist.  Another nicu mom told me about domperidon.  She said it requires an rx but is not covered bt insurance so its about $120 for a 1 month supply and there is only one pharmacy around us that carries it.
