pseudostrabismus

We went for a second opinion from another opthomologist today and his diagnosis was the same as the 1st doctors. DD has a pseudostrabismus..Strabismus is the term for "crossed eyes." DD's left eye appears to be crossed but in fact it is not. It looks that way due to her wide nose bridge and the skin around her eye. When her nose bridge thins out as she gets older & she more or less "grows into her face" it wont look that way any more. It wouldnt have been a big deal if she did have strabismus, but I am happy to know for certain either way.

  • oh how interesting! well im glad its not strabismus!!!
  • Her left eye looks like it is pointing inward but if you look at the reflection in both of her eyes they are in the center of the pupil. I guess the reflection being symmetrical is the main point.

  • Yep dd has this too.  Our first pedi. never said a word about her eyes, but when we switched to her current one he mentioned it right away.  He said it was pseudostrabismus due to the bridge of her nose and the folds under her eyes, so he warned us not to freak out if anyone ever mentions that her eyes look crossed.
