I caught my dog having sex!

I have a 2 year old beagle that has been fixed since 6 months old.  Our neighbor's dog is almost a year old and not fixed.  The dogs like to play, so sometimes my neighbor just lets my dog in their backyard to run around.  I don't mind and love the idea of them playing together and getting energy out. 

Well, I heard the neighbor's dog barking and I went outside to see if everything was ok.  My neighbors dog ran over to me and my dog was lagging behind was limping.  He was fully erect.  It took him about 5 minutes to calm down and look normal.  I have NEVER seen anything like this before on my dog or anyone elses for that matter.  I had no idea that it was even a possibility after he was nuetured. 

Now what??? Do I not let them play together anymore? Apparently my DH needs to have the talk with him tonight.

The neighbors dog is a female correct?  She is probably in heat and that's what all this is about.  Just keep your dog away from her for about 3 weeks or so and then all should be fine for another 6 months or so.  Nothing can come of it if your dog is fixed, but just for the fact.

They're fine. Ignore them. Your neighbor's dog may be in heat and just b/c his parts don't work doesn't mean he won't try.

I wouldn't worry about them playing together unless it really bothers your neighbor. Sex won't hurt them :P

Oh, and as for disturbing....I have watched my gelded (as in no balls) show horse get mounted by one of his also gelded, also male, pasture buddies. Repeatedly. He doesn't seem to mind.

yeah, my puppy is a bit hard up. he likes to hump his brother. it's disturbing.

he's also humped my FIL's foot.

and one time, my husband thought he was touching my dog's paw, but it was really his you know what... and then we looked down, and he had a "red rocket." disturbing. and he's fixed too!

Hahahah. My little Jack has been neutered since we got him 2 1/2 years ago, but still gets erections every now and then. We just laugh hysterically when he goes into a little humping fit. Poor little guy still gets the urge every now and again.

Did you know that humping (for non mating purposes) with another dog the same sex is showing a sign of dominace.  Like when they hump your leg or a pillow.  A female will do it too.

I have a friend whose fixed male dog (some kind of large mutt, not sure what variety) humps ALL THE TIME. And he doesn't even need something TO hump, he'll just hump at the air for hours on end. She took him to the vet and they said he's fine. She only takes him for walks on hiking trails in the woods because it's so embarrassing for her.

Yup. Our female dog humps too, although she's more of a fan of walking around humping the air. Oh they make us laugh.

It has nothing to do with sex, it has to do with dominance.  My spayed female dog humps everything in sight, my intact male dog has never humped a single thing.  She's dominant and he isn't.

We catch our pomeranian having sex with his stuffed bear all the time. It is hilarious! My DH's friends have videos on their cell phones of my dog humping his bear. Apparantly, it's something funny to show around to people, I guess?

Ditto this.  My female dogs will try to hump each other sometimes too.  And the male dogs can get erect even when they are fixed, fairly randomly.  Most likely the female was either in heat, which triggered his instincts, or he was showing dominance.

Our childhood dog used to hump the Nala stuffed lioness from Lion King.  We used to hide it from him and he would seek it out to get his hump on.

Or he wasnt humping at all, and you just saw him erect, which is normal.

Male dogs can go erect at any time even if they are fixed. When dogs have "sex" or mate- they tie together. It is not like when people have sex. They get stuck together end-to-end. Chances are- one of the dogs got dry humped... My two females even do it to each other. It is often times a show of dominance- rather an act of mating.

is it the same for cats?  my two boys like to try and get it on with my female cat (they are all fixed).
