TTC after 35

Anybody know anything about thyroid levels?

I think I remember reading something on this board about optimal thyroid levels for TTC. Does anybody know anything about that??

My numbers are "normal" but on the low side. My endocrinologist wasn't concerned since I get a regular lh surge according to ovulation predictor kits.?

Re: Anybody know anything about thyroid levels?

  • My TSH was very elevated so my RE ordered more blood tests and confirmed I have hypothyroidism.  I am going to see a regular endocrinologist Aug 5th to deal with that.

My RE is recommending IVF but not before getting my thyroid problems taking care of first. Thyroid issues can definitely effect fertility.

I don't have my actual numbers but I know they were very high.

  • A low normal is probably better than a high normal.  For some reason I'm thinking a level around 2.0 is good "for conception purposes".  It seems kind of backwards, but with the thyroid a high # = an underactive thyroid.

I have read that optimal levels are between 1 and 2. My RE likes it to be below 2.5.

  • I have hypothyroidism and am always looking at the research on this. The last thing I read stated that the optimal level for ttc was 1.5 for your TSH levels. This is also what I have read the level where most people "feel" the best ( most symptom free).

  • I have Hashimotos and my RE likes to keep my TSH between 1-2 for TTC.
