  • I want to donate it but couldn't find a place in Clt. Do you ladies know of a place around here?
  • Donated it.

slhall--our hospital did the donation--you just had to listen to their spiel, and sign some forms. At least that's how it was at Rex.

  • We donated it as well. Rex works with the Carolinas Cord Blood Bank.

Shal, someone at the hospital where you plan to deliver may be able to help you find a bank if you're interested in donating it.

  • We'll donate it.
  • From everything I have googled and researched there is no place to donate in Charlotte - but I will call Presbyterian to double check!
  • We're banking ours. We found a company with a $740 discount for MDs, RNs, PAs, and NPs. Also, we have family members with leukemia and Parkinson's, so we felt it was worth the investment. The company we went with doesn't charge anything if not enough cells are harvested initially. If we need the stem cells in the future and they're not stored properly, they give us $50,000 (basically the cost of buying them).

  • We donated as well.  Admittedly it was a huge pain in the butt since our hospital isn't part of the Carolina's Cord Blood Bank group, but it was worth it if it can help save someone's life.

    This is what we did:

I know of no one else (until this post ;)) who has donated, so I have no idea if our experience was the norm.  Again, it was still totally worth it though.
