Is this bad?

So the Pediatrician said not to "season" Nora's food, but she will not eat plain food... So when I make her stuff, I put smart balance on it.  She won't eat it plain...so the only way I can get her to eat veggies is to put some smart balance on it.  I mean, when you feed your kids stuff from restaurants or straight off your plate, they're getting that stuff anyway, so it's not really that bad, right?

  • I've always fed Nate whatever we're eating... so if our food has a little salt, so does his.  He seems to really enjoy more flavorful food (including spicy food).  As long as you're not heavily salting your food, I don't see why it would be a problem.

  • Why unearth can you not use seasoning?  I could see not putting a ton of salt on but other seasons should be fine at her age. Natalie's food has many seasons in eat since she started on table food.  She also won't eat plain food -- and I don't blame her.

  • That's hard!  Kira usually eats whatever we're eating.  Many things have just a little olive oil and/or pepper on them, but she likes spicy too.  Can you try some olive oil?  Or herbs?  Or garlic?  Or non-spicy spices like turmeric?  I'd think that if you added just one spice at a time that you could determine in the next day or two if it bothered her?

  • Is there a specific reason the doctor said no flavoring? Does he think it contributes to her rash or something?
If not then I'm not sure why they said that... I know recently there has been a rise in the number of children who have high blood pressure etc so maybe they prefer that approach? IDK but we flavor our foods and he eats what we eat. I do not use a lot of salt in cooking but I do use pepper in everything and other spices.
  • I don't really know.  I don't think it has to do with her rash.  I said that I was having trouble getting her to eat veggies and asked if I could season them to see if she liked them better.  She said that she would do some cinnamon on sweet potatoes, but not to salt the food or use other seasonings at this point.  I thought that was a bit crazy.  I mean, plain veggies are just not that appealing.  She flat out refuses pureed veggies now, so I have to do something to make them appealing to her.

  • I think if there's no medical reason (like the rash), then I don't think it's a big deal.  Sure, easy on the salt.  But otherwise I think at this age they can pretty much have everything we eat, and who wants to eat plain veggies?!  I think this would be a case of me not following my pedi's advice.
