baby briefcase..should I buy it?

I posted this on 0-6 but only got one response.

So I've seen this file folder baby briefcase thing that looks like it would come in handy to store all of baby's paperwork and important things.  It does, however, look like you could easily make your own out of regular file folders, etc.  Has anyone gotten one of these and found it useful?

If you have any lists/instructions about making your own, please let me know.  I'm all about making my own creation vs. buying something.

Re: baby briefcase..should I buy it?

  • Could you just buy an accordion folder from walmart, target, etc and label it baby?
  • Loading the player...
  • I have a really cute File Folder I got from Target for like $2.50 and it has a bunch of pockets.  So I made a pocket for myself and DH as well as each child, we have 3 and are about to have a 4th soon :)

Also, I was able to put other things in there, like fun ideas or crafts to do with the kids, I even have a file folder for bills and such.  You don't need a whole baby briefcase, I don't think.  We do store keepsakes for each child, like a special dress or pajama, the Newspapers for that day, we have a baby box, it's pretty big, like a box of diapers that someone wrapped in cute paper :)

     I hope that helps :):):)

I was thinking the same exact thing
  • i will eventually be getting a small fire safe to put all of our important documents in. you never know when there's going to be a fire or flood and this way i will have all birth certificates, records, titles to vehicles, etc. all together in one place.
  • I have a plastic folder with her shot records in it (expandable file/accordian file like others mentioned - it's actually cute with pink and purple stripes on it).

What else would you store there? Our birth certficates are in a fire safe since there's no reason to carry those around. I don't put the shot records there because it'd be a pain to get them out to take to DD's appointments and besides shot records are very easily replaceable if you've never changed pediatricians.

Go check out the school supplies all the stores are putting out now and just pick a cute plastic folder and call it done.

  • We received one from a relative and it's nice, but I actually had already made my own. The files in the briefcase were labeled as follows:

    1. birth certificate and social security card

    2. insurance paperwork

    3. immunizations and vaccinations

    4. thank you note tracker for gift registry

    5. pediatrician visits and healthcare receipts

    6. childcare (day care, nanny, sitters)

That about sums up what I had already come up with.

Fire boxes are awesome! My family had a small kitchen fire, and it kept all of the files safe. Its a pain in the arse to track down social security cards, marriage licenses, etc. after something like that.
