XP from 0-6: Update on G's hips from her U/S appointment

G has been in the pavlik harness (see pics here: https://www.hip-baby.org/pavlik.html) for two weeks now.  She had an ultrasound today to see how her bones have grown.  Her left side is doing great, but her right hip is still popping out of the socket.  We have a followup appointment with the pediatric orthopedic on Friday to see what our next steps are.  I am sure she will be in this brace for at least another two weeks or longer before we can start weaning her off it.

She's one month old now.  Tummy time is impossible, but I'm going to ask the doctor about what we can do for alternatives on Friday.  She's getting a flat spot on the right side of her head, and I don't know what to do about it except put her to sleep on the left side and keep her in the moby during the day so she doesn't put the pressure on the right side and she can develop her neck strength.  This is a huge challenge and I'm getting a little down about the news.

I know things could always be worse and I'm grateful that this is the extent of her issues, given that she was a month early, measuring 3 weeks behind in growth (in the 12th percentile overall and 3rd in her abdomen) and she never was in the nicu.  But I'm still feeling a little down about it.  Oh well.  Not much I can do except talk to the doctor on Monday and do the best we can for her.  This will get resolved eventually and after it's all said and done, she will be fine.  These weeks are just a little tough.

  • aww poor thing.  I hope that your daughter doesn't need the harness much longer!  I think using the moby is a great idea!!  Hang in there!
