Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

How long did you bleed after d&c?

I know there's not set number but how long is too long to bleed after a d&c.  Today (Wed) is two weeks since my d&c and I'm still bleeding.  It's a lot lighter than it was but it's been two weeks.  The sheet of information my doc gave me after surgery said I will bleed for up to one week after surgery and when I google it that's what every website says.  I have my follow up appt on Thursday but I'm just curious.  The longer  I bleed, the more I worry that something is wrong and not all the tissue is gone.

So, how long did you bleed after having a d&c?

Re: How long did you bleed after d&c?

  • I bleed for a week.  But for another week after that I had spotting.  My doctor seemed to think that was normal.  Im sorry you are going through this.  ((BIG HUGS))

  • You know it's starting to cloud over, but with my first I know it was over 2 weeks, and with the second it was around 3 weeks.  I remember I was disappointed cause I thought the bleeding would be less heavy and less frequent than with my natural m/c and I was dead wrong.

  • sometimes i wonder where these estimates come from. now, our lovely bump website says that bleeding for up to two weeks can be considered "normal" following a d&c or d&e. but i completely understand why you may be nervous. i am a complete advocate of giving your dr a call and let the office know what's going on. they may tell you to wait a few more days, or call if it gets heavy again or if there are any other problems. or they may want you to come in and get checked out. either way, at least they have a heads up and you are doing your part to make sure you take good care of yourself.

for me, i bled on and off for a week after the d&c and needed to be put on this drug called methergine to make my ute contract to get any remaining tissue out of there. but even after that, two weeks later i started spotting, and that lasted over two weeks, which-- although it freaked me the eff out-- was "completely normal." so as stressful and worrysome as this time may be for you, ever person heals differently and this may just be your body's way of getting back on track. keep us updated!

  • I am sorry you are going through all this.  With my 1st m/c I spotted about a week and with the latest one over 2 weeks.  GL!

  • I bled very heavily for about 3 weeks and then spotted another week after that.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

  • I'm so sorry for your loss. I didn't bleed, but spotted for a couple of days. While it may sound more pleasant it didn't seem normal to me. Hopefully your Dr. will be able to shed some light on the situation at your appointment.
  • The sheet I have from the hospital says 1-2 weeks is normal for bleeding and then another 2-4 weeks of spotting is normal.  For me this time, I had less than a week of bleeding and passing tissue and then very light brownish spotting every other time I wiped which is still ongoing but I will only be 2 weeks on Friday.

  • It's been 1 week since my d and c and it appears to be really heavy. I'm concerned so I'm going to call doctor tomm morning. I just want to be perfectly healed and recovery so I can conceive again quickly and have a healthy full term pregnancy and birth. Still healing heart and soul.
  • I only bled for 4 days and it was really light the entire time.  But I was told I could bleed for 1 to 2 weeks and it could be heavy.  I think it just depends but if you're concerned you should call your OB.
