St. Francis

Have any of you delivered at St. Francis in Shakopee? We are planning on delivering there since thats the hospital our midwife uses and it doesn't help that its fairly close to our home.?

Any advice, pro's, con's. anything would be appreciated. ?

Re: St. Francis

  • I'll be delivering there in October.  I've had several friends that have delivered there in the past though and have had great experiences.  Delivery and postpartum are in the same room so you don't have to be moved once you deliver.  The suites are spacious and there is a place for your s/o to sleep.  Apparently the food is good and you can order food restaurant style whenever you want...coming from a guy.  I've heard that the lactation consultants do a really good job, but are only there during day on weekdays, otherwise the nurses have to help you.

  • I will be delivering LO there in November, so far the few things i have heard have all been good.
  • Are you girls using an ob or a midwife? Just curious. I am thinking about a midwife but am scared i still may need some pain meds. I want to go natural but am not opposed to meds.?

  • I wanted to use a midwife, but had high BP the first appointment so was referred over to the OB. I had bad experience with the OB at first, but now love my OB. I am with Dr. Druckman at Park Nicollet. He is awesome!!!

    I loved the OB's.

  • I have an OB, but wouldn't ever go back to her.  Dr Torkelson.  She's medically good, but doesn't seem to be very helpful or informative.  It's like pulling teeth to get her to answer my questions.  That's why I come to this website to get most of my answers.
  • I am going to Jennifer Stoffers CNM with Park Nicollet. If for some reason i need an OB I will look into that doctor. Are you at the Shakopee Clinic then? I go to Chanhassen for my family doc but of course they don't have ob there.?

  • Yes, I go to the clinic attacted to the hospital.

I saw Torkelson when first referred and HATED her!

  • i'm so nervous and have no idea what to expect at my first appointment. all i know is its going to be over an hour. what all do they do at the 8 week appt.?

adamswife: i am so glad i found you!?

  • We had the 8 week appointment too. She gave me a sheet for a bunch of blood work, 8 vitals is what they took, as well as a pee sample.

At the appointment, they go an exam if your due, go over your history, your husband history. What to avoid, what not to avoid, what tests you can opt for our not have. Questions. The hour FLEW by.

  • I am going to deliver there around Christmas/New Years and am very pleased with all of my research. My OB is Diane Gillman at the Allina Clinic and I am very happy with her. Yes
  • Seriously, the more I talk about it, the more I want to switch doctors.  I have debated this off and on now for at least 2-3 months.  Would it be awkward to switch OBs, but stay at the same clinic?  What if Torkelson ended up having to deliver me when she's on call?  That might be weird...
  • I don't think it would be bad to switch.
