DD has been STTN since about 2 months, and as of last week has been putting herself to sleep for the night after being put down drowsy but awake (I'm still amazed she can do this). She would sometimes wake at night, whine a little, but go back to sleep quickly on her own.
The last few nights, however, she has been waking up multiple times screaming and nothing will calm her besides nursing. And she's not even hungry, her eyes droop before there is any let down! I've treid a pacifier (which has always worked in the past), tried walking with her, nothing. She's swaddled currently with one arm out, as she has been for a couple weeks.
One thing I have noticed is that her diaper has been soaked the last two nights. Before, I would always just change her after she ate in the morning, and the diaper would be mildly wet. Last night I had to change her at 2am because it was completely full. That hasn't happened in months!
Could the diaper be waking her? But then why would she start wetting it so much more suddenly? What else could be interrupting her sleep? Anyone else experience this at 5-6 months?
Sorry so long, I'm just so baffled by her change in behavior.
Re: 5 mnth old suddenly screaming at night after STTN for months?
Teething?
The reason her diaper is soaked is because she's waking up. Babies that STTN will very likely have a dry diaper when they wake up...then the floodgates open. lol
Im kind of in the same boat. DD has been sleeping through the night for at least a month and a half now. But the past few nights she's been waking up, fussing. It started with her waking up once, fussing. Id give her the pacifier and she'd go right back to sleep. The past two nights though, she will wake up and she's up almost every hour. I thought she was hungry so I gave her a bottle. She'll eat maybe 2 oz and then pass out. Ill try to lay her down after that and she screams. And if she's not screaming, she will toss & turn all night long. Its like she cant get comfortable. I dont know whats going on. Im wondering if the 4mo wakeful was late and she's experiencing it at 5 months. I thought maybe we had gotten lucky & DD wasnt going to go through that!
Oh God no! Not a 5 month wakeful. Seems like we had a 3 month, a 4 month and now a 5. Is this my punishment for him STTN at 2 months? I knew having such a "good baby" was going to come back and bite me in the ass, I just thought it would be during the teen years.
Well, I'm glad to hear I'm not alone. I thought about teething, but she acts totally happy during the day. No extra fussing or anything. What else could be bothering her at night??
I hope this doesn't last long for any of us! Man, just when I was getting used to sleeping at night again...
