chicken pox?

Emily has had some spots in her diaper area since about friday night, and I have been putting diaper cream on them. It hasn't gotten any worse, but not really any better either.

I just got a call from daycare and they think it could be chicken pox- i never even really thought of that. She had her vacc already at one year, and just had DTaP, Hib, and IPV on tuesday.

It doesn't seem to be spreading so I don't really see the need to go to Dr, there isn't anything that can be done if it IS chicken pox is there? anything else you can think of that might look like chicken pox?

Re: chicken pox?

  • Eli got some of those, right after he got his vaccine.  So I figure it was a reaction from that.  I have no idea though if it's been a few months.  I would call and talk to a nurse and see what they say.

  • I was thinking what Mikey said a reaction to the vaccines or maybe a heat rash especially if it is in the diaper area and has not spread.

I've heard they can still get chic pox even with vaccine it is just a much milder case. Is she running any kind of fever? Was she exposed to it at daycare by any chance?

  • I didn't notice her having a fever and I never heard anything from daycare about chicken pox outbreaks. She also doesn't seem at all bothered by it- hasn't tried to scratch or anything like that.

  • Some diaper rashes can have vesicles like chicken pox. Chicken pox are classically described as a dew drop on a rose petal (so the base should be pinkish-red). Pox are also in different stages of development, so some should be newer, others bigger, some starting to crust over. I've never heard of a child having them just in the diaper area. . they're usually all over. If it is chicken pox, nothing you can do but let it run it's course. They're contagious until the last pox has scabbed over. Is your little one scratching? If not, doesn't sound like the pox. GL!
