A Pets nestie's water broke early and she's been on hospital bedrest for the last 5 weeks. I had no idea they could keep the baby in with no fluid but it sounds like they're doing pretty well.
Generally premature infants born between 23 and 24 weeks pregnancy have
a survival rate between 10 and 70% that of a full term infant. Many
factors need to be taken into consideration. Modern technology however
has saved babies even as small as one pound so take heart heaven forbid
you do deliver your baby early.
There a few women on the preemie board who had their water break too early, but were able to stay pg for awhile. They did have to be hospitalized and on antibiotics to prevent infection.
In the case of one of the moms, she did end up losing on of her twins, but the little girl (while overcoming a few preemie issues) is doing well. Her water broke somewhere around 18-19 weeks, she made it to 27 ish.
There is still hope, and the babies may still stay inside for awhile. Your SIL might appreciate some good books if she is stuck on hospital bedrest, though.
My friends water broke early with twins and they put her in the hospital and it "sealed" back up. It is possible to deliver one baby and not the others, of course, there is a lot of added risk on top of the triplet pregnancy and I don't think it is often done. I wish them good luck. I don't know about 23 weeks, but at 26 weeks, my cousin had twins at 26 weeks. They had a pretty good chance of survival, like 90%, and a 50% chance of having a major disability. They are 3 now and are doing very well. Another friend had twins at 25 weeks. They are 8 now.
Page nbjenni on multiples, premies, or 6 to 12 I think.... i think I remember her water breaking around that time with her twins. Her doctors kept her on hospital bedrest and both of her twins are here and healthy. your family is in my thoughts and prayers.
A woman I used to work for had this happen to her over 20 yrs ago. They kept her in the hospital a couple weeks and then delivered the baby at 25 weeks. The baby had to stay in the hospital a couple months I think, but he was eventually okay. He is a junior in college now and perfectly fine!
I just wanted to say, obviously the situation with my former boss was different since she was only pregnant with 1 baby, but still, I just wanted to post her story since it ended up working out fine. Also, that was over 20 yrs ago and things were different medically at that time. She says the Dr could have easily told her that there was nothing he could do back then, but he said he had a feeling and gave her the choice what to do. Good thing she chose well, huh?!! Miracles happen!!
I'm just a parenting lurker, but I'm the Pets gal that dandelion mentioned. My water broke at 23w1d and I'm still hanging in there at 27w3d.
There is also a gal from What's Cooking whose water broke early (seems like she was 25-27wks or so?) and she had triplets. I've been following her blog religiously: www.threecheersforbabies.blogspot.com.

Oh no! I don't know the answers to your questions, but she and the babies will be in my thoughts. Please keep us updated.
(I could be wrong on this, but I think there is a survival rate starting around 23 weeks)
ETA: Try posting this on the Multiples Board, they are very helpful and know a lot!
I just found this on the internet:
