I need to get a HUGE HUGE stuffed animal across the country...help

So I need to transport a large stuffed animal across the country. It is full of hard foam like packing peanuts so no space bag for this gal. This thing is WAY larger than any suit case I own. The airlines have a 62" linear limitation before they charge 300.00 EXTRA. USPS do not ship anything over 30"x30"x30" (they don't even do that large).

Any suggestions? He's probably 4' long &  2' tall & roundish. I am going to be HEARTBROKEN - like seriously heart broken if I can't make this happen.

  • Wrapped in a tarp, taped like crazy, shipped via UPS ground is probably going to be your only chance.

  • Yes, UPS ships irregulars. DH works there and complains constantly about al the insane stuff they'll ship (and hence he has to carry). If you don't know how to package it though, take it to a UPS store and they'll take care of it for you.

  • Greyhound bus and Amtrak both take large items for shipment. Not exactly sure how it works. My brother shipped a bicycle from upstate NY to my sister in Wash DC on one of the two. I think it was $40 or $70...pretty sure under $100.

You could also use UPS or FedEx both will come pick it up at your house, but I think those might cost you more than the greyhound/amtrak options.
