My insurance doesn't cover my birthing classes that are crazy expensive at my medical center. Does anyone know of a good birthing classes in the Seattle area?
I know that davesgirl34 just took one through Group Health (at Northgate) and liked it. Mine was through UW and everyone in the class was delivering there, so I'm not sure if they enroll people who will deliver elsewhere. But the class was really good. It may be worth checking into.
Hi, we took a Great Starts class that happened to be held at Group health, but is not through Group Health. They have classes in many different places. The cost was about $170 for 7 classes. They teach out of the Penny Simkin book. Here is the website.

We did the same one, and liked it pretty well. I feel like it was pretty thorough but I felt like our teacher was a little quirky and sometimes inappropriately opinionated...but I wouldn't take any one teacher's perspective on this stuff as gospel. ?Overall I'm glad we did it, and the Penny Simkin book is really a great resource too.
We just signed up for a class through Overlake Hospital (at BCC in Bellevue) for $100/couple for all Wednesdays in October and November. It covers birthing and newborn care. Check out Overlake's website for info. www.overlakehospital.org

It's not Seattle, but it's free....

We took them and loved the experience. They cover everything and Serena had a great sense of humor. Emily is also a great instructor.

Does insurance typically cover baby classes? I had no idea!
