Another bleeding episode last night. Passed a clot about the size of an egg. The bleeding tapered off to spotting pretty quickly. I've had a lot of abdominal pain/soreness/tenderness the past 36 hours, which lessened significantly (but is still here) after the clot passed. We found the baby's h/b in normal ranges just after the episode and so we just went to bed.
We knew that our options were ER - but I wasn't bleeding too heavily, and I wasn't cramping or contracting or in a large amount of pain - or call the mw, who wouldn't be able to do anything at 10 pm but recommend rest or the ER.
I called the mw today as soon as the birth center should have opened and left a message, but shortly thereafter got a listserv email stating she was going to be on a local radio program this morning, so I don't think I'll hear back before this afternoon.
We know the baby is ok, for now. This is the third major episode - they seem to be coming every three weeks, actually, with minor spotting bits in between. I'm not cramping, but I am still sore. My mw is hesitant to recommend u/s, but I think in this case - the soreness/tenderness and the large clot (which could be signs of placental tears or partial abruptions) warrant another u/s. I'm asking for one anyway. I'm at work now, but not really concentrating (and this is a terrible time at work for this to happen).
Good thoughts or encouraging stories are very welcome.
Re: We are having a rough time.
Oh hon, I'm really sorry! I hate that you are going through this. If you want the u/s, push for it. You need peace of mind to focus on staying positive and calm for your little one.
:::hugs:::
I'm so sorry. I had the same thing happen earlier in my pregnancy (week 6), and it ended up being a subchorionic hematoma, which is usually harmless. I had a large clot come out with bleeding, then it immediately turned to spotting (I spotted brown at least a couple weeks afterwards). I didn't have any cramping - only bleeding. My baby is still growing right on track. I hope your bleeding stops.. I know how scary it can be.
hey easjer...I am sorry you are having a rough time. This sounds like what happened to me and we found out (just about the same time too) that I had a hematoma. I first started bleeding/clotting at 14 weeks and went to the ER. They found a small tear behind the placenta but was so minor and said I just needed to rest. Two weeks later (one day after sex) i started bleeding again. My dr. reviewed my tests results and put me on bed rest for one week. It basically has to clear up on it's own. For about two weeks after that I always spotted brown and had some clots come out. Then last week I had a really big brown clot and now nothing. ( I am still a little sore) It seems to have gone away but we are still taking it easy and havne't had sex. I was at the dr. on Friday and heard the hb and going again today. I really hope that they figure out what it is for you, Please take care and keep us posted.

I'm with your m/w when it comes to general caution about u/s, but in this case I think you probably need to get one (there IS a reason for them sometimes!). I didn't know you were going through this - I'm sorry. The doppler must be a great consolation right now. Get that u/s and update us!
I've had an u/s after the previous two big episodes, and they couldn't find anything. All anyone could tell me was 'Sometimes this happens. Apparently, it's happening to you.'
I just wish there was some explanation. That was a really huge clot to come out of nowhere, you know? If it's nothing, ok. If it's something I need to rest more (though that would have to mean bedrest, as God knows I've been a slug lately), sure. I'll work out a way to work from home or I'll blow some sick/vacation time. Whatever. We haven't had sex since we conceived in April, precisely because of all the bleeding. We think an orgasm triggered one of the more minor episodes, but this time - nothing but soreness. I mean - we went to the bookstore where I browsed for 15 minutes and then to Target, where we browsed for 30 minutes and that was the extent of my activity this weekend. The rest of the time was spent in bed, in my recliner, one the couch or on the floor.
FFS. I just want to make sure the baby is ok and that my body isn't failing us, you know?

Advocate for yourself! I do think it does warrant another u/s, maybe do a cervical length every couple of weeks, get checked out for clotting disorder (if you haven't already), insist on progesterone shots, take lots of vitamin b B6, B12, folic acid, besides the prenatal vitamins)..... Get a second opinion (all things I did with this pregnancy, given my history with the twins). As much as I'd loved to have a birth center or home birth, with this baby, I went to an OB that is partial to natural births, (very low c-section rates, discourages epidurals, won't induce unless absolutely necessary, doesn't believe in episiotomies; I really checked him out, he is great!) and I also visited a perinatalogist (high risk doctor) for a while.
I know it's scary to go through this. It took me 6 years to get pregnant with my first, and I lost the first one (subchoreonic hemmorhaging), and the twins (constant bleeding triggered preterm labor) I feel that it was partially due to the PCOS, but the extra vitamins and progesterone helped a lot. My concern is that the bleeding every 3 weeks, and it being clots..... Take care, and good luck!
That sounds so scary. I think you should definitely push for an u/s. Is it possible that you have a SCH?
I'll be thinking of you and looking for your update!
