So I know you need to stop using differin face gel before getting pregnant, but my question is how long.
My doctor said it is not a high risk drug and if you stop right before you try it should be ok. She did not sound so sure and I can not find anything on the internet about specifically how long differin is in your system from being absored.
So if I want to start trying next cycle (period should come August 7th and I normally ovulate 15-17 post first day of period) what is the last day I should use differin, or do I need to stop now?
I am so worried about this as I have been using it for over 20 years!!! When I have stoped in the past for even a few months I get huge, painful cysts on my chin!! I can not use anything for it during pregnancy (as benzyol peroxide makes me get hives and salcylic acid I heard is not ok to use even though it is over the counter). Obviously no big deal in teh scheme of things, but I hate having acne in my mid 30s!
Re: when to stop differin?
I feel like I've discussed pregnancy with my dermatologist more than my gyn! I was on differin for a while in highschool, so I can't speak specifically to that. My two cents from my doc 1) that topicals don't get as absorbed into your system as other meds, so maybe that's the reason it's okay to wait like your doc said and 2) I'm now on two other topical meds, clindimyacin and another which are both safe to use during pregnancy.
Good luck!
I don't have any advice for you but I'm glad you posted this. I use differin occasionally and had no idea that you weren't supposed to take it while TTC!
