"g"Diaper Users......

So I just bought the starter kit!  DH and I had talked about them, so I was just at BRU and saw them and thought what the heck we will give it a try!  My question is, how many pants does one typically need?  The kit comes with 2 but I assume he'll need more.  And how many inserts do you usually go through a day?  We will probably not go 100% with this but since I am home and he isn't in daycare I want to try and use them as much as possible......

  • I use G diapers. The actually fit DD really well. We have 4 of the outsides and 6 of the inside things. We don't actually use the paper inserts, we use some of our CD inserts and they work great! At the beginning, I could reuse the outsides (pants) once, now that she is peeing more (she's almost 4 months) I usually have to wash the whole thing before using it again.

  • We tried them when DD was a newborn just because I loved that I could find them locally as compared to all of our CDs which had to be bought online at the time.  We had one starter kit, which included 2 covers ("pants") and 4 liners.  We tried them as a backup when our newborn fitteds were being washed, and after just 1-2 uses I decided that for me the "inserts" (absorbent part) were a waste b/c she peed so little each time that it made more sense for us just to put prefolds into the liners.  I just hated to throw anything out after just one use, not to mention those gdiaper inserts were really expensive for just one use.  So that's all we ever did, though we did use them for a couple months that way!  I liked the covers/liners, just not the inserts, and prefolds worked *really* well inside of them.  You can probably start with one starter pack, and then add a second if you find that 4 covers would make it easier for you.  If you're home I recommend using them with prefolds, and maybe use the inserts for traveling if you won't have access to a washing machine.  Prefolds are bulletproof though! :)  Good luck! :)
