It's official - MIL is back smoking

I am so disappointed. It's her life, but I am still bummed. She says she just likes it too much.

DH laid down the law about not doing when DD is over and I think she was bummed, but understood.

I seriously don't get how she can go back to it after 4 years of quitting.

  • I totally get how she can go back.  Everyday is a struggle, even after years.  Try to get her to try Chantix.  It has well publicized side effects, but so does smoking.  I quit 3 times for over a year and Chantix was the only thing that ever helped it stick.  I won't say I will never smoke again, but I don't think of it the same way after taking Chantix, and that helps tremendously.
  • that sucks!  I'm sorry.

  • I understand why you're upset, my whole family smokes.  You can't tell someone not to smoke.  But you can request that she not do it when your kids are around.  You can ask her not to smoke in your house.  If she doesn't want to not smoke in her own house, you just have to decide how comfortable you feel about your kids being there.

This is a battle I have fought with my own family and it's hard.
