High-Risk Pregnancy

**Ramella**

I saw in the bed rest check in you mentioned that your child has fluid on the kidneys. So does mine.  I have been told about the same as you - not to worry.  I did come across a lady a few months ago whose daughter also had fluid on her kidneys - and she and I emailed back and forth a bit. Her daughter really had the worst case scenario of fluid on the kidneys and she will be having surgery in August when she gets old enough.  I will see if I can find that email and PM some of the details to you. Basically, I am trying not to worry about it too much - from what I understand it is not that uncommon and there is a wide range of what it could mean for the baby once they are born. I figure I have enough to worry about now that I will take their word for this one and wait to see how it pans out once she is here.  Best of luck to you!

  • Thanks so much for the response. ?I'd never heard of this before, so it's unsettling. ?I've been doing some search on this on the internet and yes, the worst case is that they have to go in and drain the fluid out, but those cases are rare and most cases go away on their own. ?I hope that our babies fall in the more common column and the fluid goes away on their own. ?Thanks again! ?I appreciate you taking the time to write. ?-Mell

  • No problem - I know it is unsettling. I have looked for that email and I think it was on my work account and I do not seem to have it anymore... anyway, what you said is about right... I think the severe cases are pretty rare. It is scary no matter what the issue is - but it seems like most of the times it is pretty bearable. Hope that is the case for both of us. Do you know if the fluid has increased or decreased since the initial find? One of my DD's kidneys has resolved (it's gone) but the other had a slight increase. I have another scan on Friday so I am anxious where it may be this time!!!  Keep me posted! I am also not sure if you are having a boy r girl and from all I have been told, it is much more common with boys.

  • Hi mrsjrmiller,

Thanks for checking! ?Yes, it seems the fluid has gotten a little smaller, but they were still present in both kidneys the last check last week. ?We have our regular OB this Thursday and I'm hoping to hear more news on this as well. ?We're having a boy, and yes I've heard the same that it is most common with boys. ?

?Thats great news that your baby's one kidney has gotten rid of the fluid! ?I'm sure the other will follow suit and you'll have good news on Friday. ?Keep me posted!
