Formula vs. generic formula?

I switched Aven to the generic for Similac Advanced (Target brand.)  I did it slowly, half and half for a few days, and then yesterday and today were her first days on just generic. Today she has been extra fussy, and just had this major, and I mean major meltdown that nothing helped with. Finally I gave her gripe water and she settled down.  Have any of you experienced this type of dramatic affect of switching to generic?  We had compared the ingredients and it all seemed like the same thing, but the color and smell of the formula is a little different.  I hope she isn't screaming like this all night!!  What should I do?  Should I switch back, or let the new formula get settled in??

  • We switched over from Similac Soy to the babies r us brand. It has been a week now and she seems the same. The only difference is that she has become constipated. I am now giving her some prune juice to help.

  • My pediatrician said that they were all the same and I was planning on swithcing after I used all the similac I had in stock....so  I am curious to see everyones answers.
  • I use Parent's Choice Gentle (Walmart brand).  Same as Enfamil Gentlease.  I didn't actually use the Enfamil stuff, but DD seems to love the PC brand -she does great on it.  Previously we were using Good Start in the green can (I'm in Canada... it's called Natural Cultures here - not sure if it's the same in the states) and she did awful on it... fussy and spit up all the time.  I'm pro-generic formula because it is legislated.
  • We tried switching from Similac Advanced w/ Early Shield to the Target brand and had a similar experience.  DS became much fussier and struggled to pass gas and having a BM.  When we switched back to the Similac the problems went away.
  • We switched to the Sam's Club brand of Simliac Advance with early shield and have had no problems. Whoohooo for saving money on something lol.
  • If she is fussy again tomorrow, I am switching her back.  She is such a happy baby, and hardly EVER cries, so when she freaks like that it is so hard!
