I posted yesterday about how I got 3 BFPs using the Equate brand Early Pregnancy Test from Walmart. It has the blue dye with the "I I" if you are pregnant and not the +/-. (its clear plastic) We haven't been trying to get pregnant but the other day I just randomly mentioned to DH that I thought I was ovulating and should we just try and see what happens??? So we did and since my cycles have been a little off lately I am guessing I am just now at 9dpo give or take a couple of days. Yesterday morning I took the Equate test and within 1 minute the second blue line showed up. It was faint but it was definitely there with color. I didn't need to squint to see it. So I thought, "wow, I guess i"m pregnant! I must have ovulated earlier than I thought because it probably wouldn't show up at 8dpo!" So of course I peed on the other 2 sticks in the package and they all showed the same faint blue line meaning I was pregnant. I thought I'd heard stories about the blue dye tests and that they were known to give false positives (which I conveniently forgot when I BOUGHT the tests) so I ran out and got a few dollar tree tests (new choice) cuz they were always very sensitive. They were all negative. By this point I thought maybe my pee was just diluted since it was now the middle of the day so I retested this morning using the dollar store test. Negative.
So i googled "equate brand false positives blue dye walmart" and sure enough tons of women have had the same false positives. I haven't given up yet on this cycle by any means and I did go get an FRER 3 pack so I'll give it a few more days and test again. This is just an FYI b/c I really thought I was pregnant...and its just an awful feeling to sit there and look at those "positive" tests and then learn that they are wrong.
Re: Beware of Equate blue dye EPT from Walmart! False BFPs
That false positive is called an evaporation line. They are very common in any blue dye tests. I'm pretty sure a few ladies a few days ago also had this problem.
Sorry! GL!
