only one solution to my carseat dilemma from the other day

we went back to BRU to see which seat might work in our Acura MDX and the only one that was small enough to fit behind the driver's seat &allow MH enough room to drive remotely comfortably (although still not great) was the Baby Trend seat. Everything else was definitely too big. I really like the Snug Rides but it is not feasible in this car. I'm still frustrated that this was an issue with an SUV but the Acura must have a relatively small back seat area of something, which we would never have thought about when we bought it a year ago :(. Oh well.?

I hoping the twins can stay in these til we can go forward facing b/c there is no way we can get a rear facing convertible back there!?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone gave!!!?

  • I am glad you found a car seat! Just wanted to let you know that the American Academy of Pediatrics now suggests keeping your babies rear facing until 2 years of age.

  • I'm glad you found a solution - that didn't involve having to go buy a new car!!

I'm glad you found one that works.  I was really surprised but my rear facing convertible actually takes up less room than the infant -- just in case you need to move before your babies turn forward.

I really can't imagine doing this until age 2... is this an actual recommendation or just a report on a new study that shows it is safer?

Their official page on car seat safety still says age 1 & 20 lbs.

    https://www.aap.org/family/carseatguide.htm?

  • It is an actual recommendation....according to my pediatrician and my husband who is also an md. It really is the safest way for them to be positioned in the car....my babies will stay rear-facing until age 2 (which has been the norm in Europe for a while already).

HOpefully you'll be able to find a convertible that will take up less room than the infant seat, like pp said.

  • Ugh, well we're screwed then. Do most people with twins not have this problem with the rear facing seats being too big if the parent(s) are 6 ft tall or more? Maybe in a year I'll change my tune about getting a minivan...
  • That's what we did.  DH could not drive my car and the car seats didn't fit in his so going anywhere as a family was awful.  We broke down and got a van.  It is SO much easier.

This is why I had to get rid of my 4Runner and purchase a minivan.  Even now the conv. car seats are a tight fit behind DH when he drives.

This was the case for us too!

  • Wow, that is surprising - we have an RDX (smaller than the MDX) and the snug rides fit just fine... is your hubby really tall or likes to lean the seat back?

Wow! I wonder if the year matters- ours is a 2004 I think. MH is not htat tall, just barely 6 ft & he doesnt seem to sit back any further than most people. ?

DH is 6 foot and one of our cars is a Mazda 3.  It was insane trying to drive that with the Snugrides -- like clown car insane  -- so we just used that car to drive them the 3 blocks to the sitter which was SO painful for him.  With the convertibles in we could drive a LOT more comfortable -- sometimes we're in there for 2.5 hours.  You will be amazed how much more room you should have with the convertible, even rear facing.  We have the Recaro Como's that were on sale on diapers.com several weeks back and LOVE them!
