f/u to old news

I don't know if any of you remember but about 2 months ago Brian's grandmother went into the hospital for a routine procedure & had a massive stroke. Well we just found out that she has been refusing to eat & basically not getting any better. Everyone has known this is not how she wants to live. Thankfully she has 2 living wills otherwise she would probably have a feeding tube by now. Long story short she is going home on hospice. She probably doesn't have much time left. 

I just feel so bad for Brian & his dad. His dad can't go to see her & probably won't make the funeral because he is having radiation treatments. This will be Brian's 2nd grandparent to die while he has been in grad school. He won't be able to go either. The school told us he would miss funerals, weddings, everything except for the birth of his child. I am just so sad for them. I wish she would have met Aubrey & I wish DHs dad could somehow get there to see his mom.

Oh sweetie! It's hard being on the other end!!!! I'll pray for everybody to get together to see each other. At least for a first or a last time MAJOR ((hugs)) to you! It's tough and you are being a great support system! I'll keep her in my prayers along with everybody else!

oh, so sorry to hear this!  Sounds like you're staying strong for them.  Prayers & hugs to you & your fam.

I'm so sorry for your and DH's family. That sucks that his program isn't more flexible so he can be with his family at a time like this. Lots of hugs your way.

Yes, it does suck. But we knew it going in, just didn't think it would affect us. I think I am more sad for his dad, darn radiation. I wish he could just put it on hold, but that's not how it works.

aww that is really sad. i can relate in a way b/c my grandmother had  a stroke and for a while she was ok but then she stopped eating and they did not put a feeding tube in, just let her pass.  it is really hard and is never easy. sorry he can't go be w/her, you'd think they would be more understanding.  my thoughts are w/your family

That royally sucks plain and simple.  I wish there was a way for everyone to get together.  Does his dad do radiation every day??  I know when my husband did radiation, he only did it Monday - Friday.  I don't know how excited is docs would have been about him traveling, but it would have been a possibility.

Your DH's grad school program sounds very intense.    I know programs have to be strict, but not attending a funeral of a family member seems a little extreme to me.
