So DS is turning one soon and I want to get a cool birthday cake. I'm not familiar with the bakeries around here, so I was hoping for some recommendations. I'm willing to go pretty much anywhere for decently priced, yummy cake.
DH got mine at Its all about the cake? in Dana Point. Girls on here have recommended French's in Costa Mesa. My gf loves Wonderland in Newport but it is pricey. My sis gets hers at Costco.
i got ryan's 1st b-day cake from kayla's kakes. she's out of fullerton.
https://kaylaskakes.com/ if you look in her portfolio, ryan's cake is on the 2nd page under "ryan's jungle cake" the bottom layer is the only real layer-the top 2 are fake.

We got our wedding cake from It's All About the Cake in Dana Point, and it was amazing. Wonderland in Newport does really pretty cakes, too. Where in OC are you located? If you are in North county, my bff gets all her kids' cakes (and my shower cake) from Beverly's Best in Fullerton, and they are SO good.
We get our cakes at French's in Costa Mesa (it's at Fairview and Baker). They can/will do pretty much anything you ask for and their cakes are so good.
Beverly's is great, i've had cakes from there a few times and I know they have quite the following. I make cakes and cupcakes as well and have started a little at home business. I've done 2 weddings now this summer and a baby shower! So i'm very new at doing it as a career, but I love to do it and if anyones interested and wants to see some of my work, e-mail me! shabbacakes@yahoo.com
I was also looking at Let Them Eat Cake in Costa Mesa, but they seem pricey. Too bad - looks yummy.
Do not use Let Them Eat Cake, they are a pain in the butt. We used them for our wedding and they were giving me a hard time about what I wanted and I wasn't happy with what we got. And they are very pricey!!! I think they have gotten snotty because of being on TV a few times.
I really like ABC Cakes in Orange, they are on Tustin, not too far from Chapman. I get most of my cakes from there and my mom ordrer by baby shower cake from there. They do a great job and the prices are good.
I went in to Let Them Eat Cake once to check it out, They were kind of rude. I fealt really uncomfortable and left...:( I was sad because I had been so excited to check the place out, I even went by one other time previous and they were closed.
ok I quadruple Beverly's Best in Brea...I've ordered my last 4 cakes from them and they were exactly what I was looking for and sooooo good... the most recent one was for DS First Bday and I took a picture of what I wanted and they replicated it to the T.... GL
the absolute BEST cakes are made by melody at sweet and saucy in long beach. i know its a drive but you said you would go anywhere for a good cake and i KNOW you wont be disappointed. i have used her many many times and she has been featured in a good amount of magazines. her website is www.sweetandsaucyshop.com

cafe des riches
i've tasted a few birthday cakes and they are TO.DIE.FOR! from what i understand, their prices are also great and it's a family owned and ran bakery.
good luck!?
We love Rockwell's in Villa Park. We always get the chocolate curl cake, usually with white cake and banana filling.
