So, DS had to be rescued at swim class yesterday.

It was right at the end of class, and we were at the steps in the corner. DS was on the ledge next to me. I looked down for a second to make sure that my feet were stable before I picked up my 31 lb kid. In that second, he stepped away from me, and right off the ledge.

You have never seen 3 people move so fast-- the two lifeguards and me. I got to him just after the water closed over his head, and pulled him right up. He didn't even swallow any water.

It was scary, but also a good object lesson for him to NEVER jump without someone to catch him. He's been talking about it since yesterday "I fell in da water. Mama got me."

I'm just glad that it happened with me and a couple of lifeguards near him, as opposed to, say, the docks in downtown Annapolis. Looks like swimming lessons are a necessity for Mr. Adventurous. <sigh>

  • I think it's good that he learned now rather than later.
  • That's scary...

DS loves the water-he jumps off the edge into our arms all the time (while wearing a life jacket). He also like to jump off the diving board into our arms. I am going to put him in swim lessons this fall I think.

  • Ethan got a lesson yesterday in what it's like to be in the water without the life jacket.  He still thinks he'll float without it.  He wanted to come in so I took him in and let him go.  He found he couldn't float but thought it was the greatest thing ever.  Not cool.
