I am planning to surprise DH with cruise tix to the caribbean for his bday. (early sept).
We would have to take DD because I am looking at a week long cruise.
I have never been on a cruise. So really have no idea how things work and how kid friendly the ships are. I will ask my travel agent when i meet with her tomorrow, but wanted to see if any of you girls have taken your LO(s) on a cruise before and maybe get some tips on how to survive the trip! ~
TIA!
Re: Going on a cruise with a toddler
My thoughts exactly!!! We wont be able to go on many excursions but i am sure we'll have a great time either way! Besides leaving Emilie for a week with my parents or in-laws is not something i want to do. lol
We took our DD on a cruise at 1.5... it was a nightmare!!!
But - that being said - after age 2 you should be ok. It's just that there's nothing for kids under 2. We did NCL to avoid long waits for dining, but we weren't a fan of the buffet food. I think we would have enjoyed the cruise a lot more if our DD was over 2- she wasn't even allowed in the pool (or the kiddie pool)!

I wonder if we have to pay for DD. I know that kids under 2 don't have to pay but she is 2 and a few months. ::adding this q to my list::
what cruiseline? most make you pay at least 1/2.
that being said, we have never taken kids on a cruise. id only *consider* it after they were at least 3 and could play in the kids camp or whatever they have for a few hrs a day. i also would only do a nick cruise or a disney cruise (or maybe carvinal?), but you wouldnt have fun on royal carib. all the fun stuff is late at night.
Thanks Punk! You were right on! There is not much for a toddler to do on a cruise. I will look at disney and nick cruises, that way we all have fun and enjoy.
Thanks again for the tip!
just a note that the kids have to be potty trained to go in the pools.
and with Disney they are free until they hit 2, but that is only b/c there is nothing to do with a less than 2 yo anyway.
i really wouldn't want to take a normal cruise (not disney or nick) with a toddler. I just don't see it as any fun.
